On a rare visit to the Capital City, from New Jersey, Staajabu will join daughter V.S. Chochezi to team up once again as Straight Out Scribes. Straight Out Scribes are more than the most dynamic bi-coastal award-winning poetry duo, they were the most noted mother/daughter poetry team in the area from 1990 to 2006. They were producers, coordinators and moderators of a ten-year-long poetry series; Poetry On A Saturday Afternoon; The Sacramento Locks Festival; Live Arts Market Place and the Sacramento Through African Eyes art exhibit and calendar. They produced, coordinated and moderated the Sacramento Rant-a-thon and are proud supporters of the campaign to Save Mumia Abu-Jamal, the MOVE 9, Loaves and Fishes, the Mustard Seed School and the Jamaican American Student Cultural Exchange (JASAC). They have authored 6 books of poetry and recorded two spoken word CD’s. Their poetry, stories, features and articles have appeared in numerous publications.
